Roman character notation according to Japanese-Language Proficiency Test level

With Hiragana Navi V3, unknown kanji characters on a Web pages can be expressed in Roman characters according to the level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test.

Method

1.

On the menu bar, click Setting and choose "Roman character."

On the tool bar, click Conversion.

3.

The Conversion window opens.

4.

Click "JLPT level."

5.

From "Hiragana," "Roman character," and "Kanji," select "Roman character."

6.

On the Display pull-down menu, choose "Roman character only," "Furigana," or "Balloon."

7.

For Level, select the target level.

On the Level pull-down menu, select "All Japanese," "All kanji," "Fourth grade," "Third grade," "Second grade," or "First grade."

8.

Click Set

When "Roman character" is selected, "Roman character" is indicated at the left.

The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test tests the Japanese ability of non-native students residing in Japan or overseas. A successful applicant receives a certificate for each level of proficiency obtained.

The Hepburn system is used in for Roman character notation in Hiragana Navi V3. A prolonged vowel sound is indicated with a macron.
"JLPT level" in the "Conversion" window is displayed only when "Roman character" is indicated at the left after "Setting" and then "Roman character" have been selected. If you select the appropriate button, "JLPT level" is not displayed in the "Conversion" window.
When "Hiragana" is selected, choose "Hiragana only," "Wakachigaki," "Parenthesis," "Furigana," and "Balloon" in Display.
